pc restart

    my pc restarts everytime i try to convert dvds to divx.
    can anyone help me?

    Please post your system specs. We need to know what cpu, ram etc and also what software you use to backup dvd's...including what OS you have. The more info the better. :)

    i have a p4 478 processor,abit A17mobo,2Gb ram,Ati Reaeon 9800Pro video card,running windows xp profesional and i'm using Xilisoft dvd to divx converter and cucusoft ultimate.

    Similar set up to mine. Plenty of grunt and ram available to you, but how's your HDD going for space?
    When your pc restarts, do you get any error messages at all? Have you checked the "event viewer" in windose? Post anything that might help out.

    my hard drive is a western Digitas Sata 200 Gb on which i'm using 45 Gb. whats weird is that it restarts without giving me an error.

    Is this a fairly recent issue? Has what you do worked before? Have you made any hardware changes at all? How far into converting does it get before you generally get a restart?
    The next thing to look at is a heat issue. With the pc on and the cover removed, feel the cpu heatsink (touch no board components) Is the power supply overly hot to the touch? Look for dust and other crap build up around fans, heatsinks and make sure the ram sticks and video card are free also. I wouldn't think it's a HDD prob...but check it for heat also.

    it restarts when its between 30 and 50 percent.i was able to convert two dvds to avi but when i try to convert it to divx it restart.
