First off forgive me because I'm sure I could find at least some answers in this forum if I had more time to search. I'm stuck in the ancient world of dial-up and my head is spinning from searching and reading (and most of my time is wasted waiting on pages to load). After reading a bunch of stuff I decided to try a live-cd/dvd like Kubuntu to become familiar with Linux. All the reading in the world can't compare to getting one's hands dirty IMHO. I haven't found much however on software compatibility... There's no way in h*!! I can replace all my software CS3 (which I did see somewhere cannot be run on Linux) alone would require a second mortgage... I can't access the internet without my provider's program which I'm going to look into after thi post. So a Dual OS seems the next step after a trial run... but I do sooooooo hate windows. I'm going t have to drive over an hour with my 'puter in tow to use a friend's cable connection. I'd like to have an idea of what else I may want to download before I go as well as better understand about compatibity. If anyone takes the time to help, great. If you want to slap me around for actin' like a n00b (well after all I am one) that's okay too. I can take it :^) Thanx
You will be aboe to get out without your isp's spyware programs.. Look in network connections for ppoe settings.. and hey presto. All you need to know are your numbers.
@varnull - *sigh*... here comes that sad shrug and turning and walking away again... I think I'll have to find a new isp cuz I'm using the mandatory spyware juno at the moment - *ducks just in case* - it's all about the money right now, but perhaps there are other inexpensive providers available out here in the boonies. No cable, no DSL, no wireless - Sat. is available but is very expensive and the bandwidth limitations are a joke. HughesNet offers no limitation beteen 3&6AM (perfect cuz that's my morning caffinating time) but $70/month is a bit out of reach. thanks for your time and sorry for the ramble
