Malky, you need a Null Modem cable, the RS232 wont work.
They both look the same, have a look at page one of this thread.

    Look at this,

    http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/820

It states a RS232 Null modem cable.

Apologies Noel RS232 Null modem cable is fine, if its just a RS232 then its not.

    A RS232 is wired eg 1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 making this a straight-wired cable,

Where as a RS232 Null modem cable is wired 2-3, 3-2, 4-6, 5-5, 6-4, 7-8, 8-7 and that is what makes the difference.

If that cable came with the box it is very likely as above that it should work fine, I dont want to cause confusion but this is where people are getting thier wires crossed, excuse the Pun Lol.

    Edit, the difference,

    RS232 Null modem cable,

Why would they give you a cable that is usless? I would suggest its down to your USB adaptor and nothing to do with your RS232 null modem cable. Try using a PC with a 9 pin serial socket,

So you dont have to use the USB adaptor, they are a pain in the ass especially with Vista so before buying a new cable try that first of all, I would bet my next weeks wage that your cable is fine and your USB adaptor is at fault.

    goodnight mate best of luck.

Also have you installed the USB adapter Driver? it should have come with it. if not download it from here then try again,

    http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm

If your using Vista dont bother just get to a PC with XP and do as above.

From one to another malky, as HiTeck has explained, get to a PC with at least OS Win XP, better still with a 9 pin serial connection, and cut out the USB adaptor save yourself a lot of headache.

If you know the frequencies then do a manual scan for them on that frequency, They should appear at the end of your channel list - then delete the non working channels.

    howa HiTeck,
Ive had to flash alot of boxes for people who had the RS232 cable that came with the b0x. I even took the cable from them & tried it , with no joy. so i flashed them with my null modem & everything was fine. Thats why i told him to get a null modem, & i`m on xp.
Just letting you know mate :)

I have The Box PVR (recently purchased). This only has an EPG thats a few hours ahead. Is there anyway that I caould possibly upload a firmware version that will give me a 7 day EPG? Could I even upgrade my box to SV4?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EPG never been to exceptional on Starview, although it is a little better if you have the correct time on the box, as regards updating to SV4, completely different box and the only way to upgrade is obviously to buy the new SV4 box.

Then why not try a factory Re-Set and fresh Installation, you might be mistaken with the frequency you quoted, it will do no harm anyway.
