I have somewhat of a unique problem. Both Firefox and IE won't load up certain websites; the ones I mostly use are boards.adultswim.com and there's a problem with loading the Yahoo! Mail login page. Okay, update; it seems it loads the Yahoo! Mail login page, but when I put in my login information, that's when it won't load, so basically it won't take me to my inbox. I also notice some ads won't load, because connections could not be established. I ran a scan on Malwarebyte's AntiMalware, and the system crashes about twenty to twenty-five minutes into the scan; it's always scanning c:\windows and it finishes scanning the system volume information when it crashes. EDIT: I installed a fresh copy of MBAM and the scan ran just fine. No viruses or spy/adware, but still can't access some sites. Here's the log: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.29 Database version: 1286 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 2008-10-18 11:53:26 mbam-log-2008-10-18 (11-53-26).txt Scan type: Full Scan (C:\|) Objects scanned: 129714 Time elapsed: 36 minute(s), 41 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected)
Hi pspluvr Do you recognize these IP addresses? 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 Go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc and open the file called hosts. When it asks you what program you want to use to open it, use Notepad. Post the contents here. Best Regards
Hey pspluvr I can confirm that your hosts file, which was edited by certain programs you have to block bad sites, is blocking adultswim.com The Yahoo! Mail login page is having trouble and bugs lately, so perhaps you can bear with that. Best Regards
Okay, first off I'm confused; I copied and pasted that stuff, but when I went to post it, it took so long, I thought it just got hung up, so I hit the back button until I got to the thread list, clicked on this thread, and the post wasn't there. Now it is, but whatever. How can I get this back to normal? Can I get a new hosts file somewhere? BTW, one further note: adultswim.com loads up just fine, it's only the message boards, boards.adultswim.com, that aren't loading. It gets up to the point where the status bar says "Transferring data from boards.adultswim.com, but that's it. The progress bar goes up to halfway before it stops loading or continues to hang.
Hi pspluvr You can reset host easily using hostXpert named software. Download HostsXpert.zip * unzip HostsXpert.zip * Run HostsXpert.exe in its folder. * Click "Make Hosts Writable?" on Right cornel (if working) * Click "Restore Microsoft's Hosts File" and then OK * close program. Send new Hijackthis log and Hosts file contents.
Still not working. I wonder if it has anything to do with the computer that hosts my wireless network, which is how I browse at home. And here's the hosts file: # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a "#" symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # 127.0.0.1 localhost
Okay, I'm at a different WIFI location, and I can see boards.adultswim.com just fine, so I think it has to do with the router, or the computer that uses it. If a computer's HOSTS file is reset and its internet connection is shared wirelessly (I'm using WEP security, can't remember which one, though, it's Linksys), do you think that would remedy the problem?
Hey pspluvr Perhaps resetting the hosts file on the internet computer might help, as well as checking to see if it is your ISP which is blocking those sites. Best Regards
