Has anyone noticed that the first generation PS3's (models with 4x usb ports) support Super Audio CD (SACD) -AND- that it is now possible to load Ubuntu/Linux on those machines now? Since those 1st gen PS3's support SACD playback is it theoretically possibly that the SACD data is accessible for ripping on that platform? Any thoughts?
No, it's not. There are no drives that can actually see the raw data. Sony will not allow it. What you can do is record the analogue outputs from any player into a multitrack DAW though. PS3 HDMI (like all HDMI)uses a handshake protocol to stop this happening, and it cannot be broken any more than the watermarks in LPCM/MLP be removed. Sorry. Oh - BTW - Sony have dropped SACD support from all but the first gen PS3 anyway.....
btw the new sony vaio js2 or whatever is the first pc thats supports sacd .it has new clever dsp sound processor...and reads dsd data..rumour says it can convert standard cd int hi res dsd format..so it plays sacd but rip i dont know the protection is pretty fierce and classified..tho i did come across a guy on here who claimed he had ripped an sacd but gave up due to the vast amount of data...also dsd to pcm covert is easy so im told told .its getting the dsd..haa..well i should imagine this sony vaio will just re record from sacd..maybe without all the cables..but at least its a first...
so if sony has dropped sacd support from ps3..hmm then they bring out a pc which supports it big time...funny lot arent they?
Er, they haven't. There are no PC that play SACD, but one of the newer models will write a DSD Disc - huge difference. And yes, they certainly are a funny lot.
is this the sony vaio you mean js2 or whatever ==clever dsp chip in it..why have clever dsp chip to write dsd disc..dsp suggest playing huh?
