I know this can't be thw first asked, but I couldnot find it.

I am trying to burn audio CD-r. I am wanting it to show the title of CD and artist and the track names.
I have been trying Nero 9.0.9.4c, and two other sofetware. Cubase internal CD-rom burner. I have used Lite-on, NEC, two LG, Sony, HP, Matsushita drives.
For some reason, I burn a valid and working audio CD. Plays great, but there are not CD Text information showing up.
Oh I have used each one of the drive above to test, but none has read any if these is CD text on disk. i even tried the Car CD player.
I must be doing something wrong. Half of these drives are not much old than half a year.
Thank you for attempting to help. I know someone out there must have a solution.
    Thank you

Standard cd audio disks don't support the feature.. All you can do is title the disk.. tracks are out of the question :)

    Varnull,
Thank you for responding. OK so off the shelf audio CD-r won't handle the track titles. I still though don't get the title of the CD. Unless I am asking too much by trying to put the track info on.
Would you please tell me what type of CD-r would it take to put track title and artist names on them?
Thank you so much for responding.

mp3/flac/wav etc cd.. that's it.. only media formats which can contain tags.. digital computer type format.. a normal cd-rom is very old technology and the cda format has nothing more than a toc containing the start points of the tracks.

OK, then I must be mistaken. How do Audio CD's diplay the track name and artist on it?
    I am confused now.

Because the player links to a database of cd information and uses the metadata.. (track timings and positions) to make an educated guess about what the track and cd are called.

    http://musicbrainz.org/

Some have glaring errors.. Hazel O'Connor, Breaking Glass has 2 track names transposed perpetuating a misprint on the cd sleeve.. I have the original vinyl which confirms the mistake..

Try it on a local bands demo or unreleased cd.. chances are it isn't in the database and you will get Artist unknown.. track1 track2 track3.. or something totally unrelated to the disk you have inserved.

OK, so the PC really relies on online database for the info. What about car CD players. Do you know how they get the info, or are they stilll somehow using a database and pulling form a carrier wave off of radio?
    I think this is interesting.

I want to thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

I know nothing about car systems. Maybe they have a built in database of common disks or something.. who knows.. google .. What I DO know is a straight cda format disk cannot contain track and artist data for each track.

You may be able to make an "enhanced" audio cd... don't know crap about those either except 90% of normal cd players don't like them. they usually contain a couple of music videos or other computer type data added to a standard cda disk.

I think you are getting seriously mixed up with what you have seen... there are such things as car mp3 disk players.. and portable mp3disk players.. I have one. Why don't you burn a data disk full of mp3 files and see what that does ;)

I have working text in audio cds in my car (just a normal cd player, not mp3), your cd player will need to support text which im not to sure how to check that but I just stumbled across that in my car. I burned the normal audio cds with Nero 7 and all text works just fine. Nero took the mp3 tags of my mp3 files and put in the artist and title with each track but you can edit them if you want.

*edit* also to get the text to appear, on my cd player there was a button that would scroll through different things that would appear (track number, title/artist, or time) so u might have to do that too

As before.. cda standard audio disks DO NOT support track tags... ONLY mp3/data disks do.

If you rip and burn a CD with the option in shown in the following screenshot with iTunes it will display the CD-Text properly providing your CD Player supports it... I recommend rip at a high quality in .mp3 or the similar for best quality/file size ratio...

NOTE: When you rip the CD to your computer you need to be connected to the internet so the CD will be titled correctly... That or you need to title it yourself!

    Varnull,
well it looks like the seven drives that I have read cd text but do not write it. I have a hard time with that, but I now want to find a list of CD burners that do write cd text.
If you know of a list, I would be grateful.

    Thank you,
    Brian

Almost any drive created in the last 5 years can write CD-Text... To check your drives capability download download ImgBurn available here.

Open the program and click the tab 'Tools' at the top. Then go down to 'Drive'. At the bottom of the list will be 'Capabilities'. Click that and on the bottom of of the first column under the 'Write Capabilities' will be a box entitled 'CD Text' if its checked then you can write text to your cds...

Standard "red book" cda disks do not support cd text.. It's written in the specifications.. any other disks which are burned to support the "extra" feature cannot be considered "standard" audio cd's and will not play on some players..

strict CDA format "red book" standard disks do not use or support the feature. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-Text

Try Feurio instead of Nero. Feurio works very well with CD-Text (either writing it or reading it off a disc) and is my favorite app to use for audio CD's. Well, actually it only does audio CD's, but it hasn't been updated for some time so may not work with all burners (but it works will all the good burners like Plextor so that's all that matters to me). It's also a bit more complicated to use that your run-of-the-mill CD burning program, but gives you a lot of features and abilities.

This has been very interesting. But I have a strange problem which I hope someone can help me with. I use Nero 6.6.0.19 to burn my CD's. I burned two CD's this morning. The first CD played good showing all of the titles on my car radio when the track was playing, the second CD (which was a continuation of the same rip) did not show the song titles. It only showed Track 01 etc. for the tracks playing. Do I have a preference set wrong somewhere? I am at a loss to explain what is going on. I compared all of the track info for the tracks recorded on the two CD's and they appear to be the same, on the original copies that is.

    Thanks, Rob

I find this all interesting. I have just tried ripping a music CD and then burning it again on another disk, using MS Media player. When I played it back on the media player it did not pick up the CD text. When I used real player it picked up on the CD text. Then I used the Creative player and it did not pick up the CD text. I tried the car stereo and it did not pick up the CD text.
I an guessing that there is a standard of no standardization.

Robkitt I am as just as confused as you.

Here is an interesting fact. Two Computers sitting side by side, One is running XP Pro the other XP Home, both have the same version of winamp, only difference is the skin. One of them shows the track title the other does not.
