I have a sa explorer 8300 from comcast that I am trying to pull my recorded movies off of so I can record more. Must have more. This thing has firewire and usb ports but I have been told they are inactive. any ideals on how to make this thing work better as far as storage needs. or where i can find the answer to my problem because right now my pc does not reckognize it when I plug it in.

I believe you have to pay a one time fee to activate the USB ports which will then operate with an external harddrive but not a PC. The PC will not recognize the DVR's new automatic formatting of the external drive. I'm also looking for a solution.

Did you ask Comcast how to transfer to anywhere?
