I have successfully been able to make vcd's consisting of youtube videos using real player and playing them in a Panasonic dvd player. Now suddenly without changing any settings a newly burnt vcd will get the wrong disc message from the dvd player. Older vcd's that I have made can still be played. I have tried different media.

Any suggestions ? I'm baffled as to what to do next.

I think the first thing I would try is take an old VCD
that still plays in your stand-alone and burn a copy of
it... see what happens.

If the new disc doesn't play then you need to find out if
it's media or maybe the burning software actually has something
changed that isn't obvious.

In any case, the idea is to keep dividing the locus of the problem.
Hardware/Software

disc creation/playback

etc..

You don't know how to proceed until you branch by
performing some test.

Thanks for responding. I tried your suggestion. It didn't work, but I may have done the wrong thing. The good vcd is made up of the following folders cdi, ext, mpegav, segment, vcd. I only burned to a disc the mpegav folder. I'm not sure why. Anyway it didn't work.

Should I burn the files in all the folders ?

The idea was to use a program that makes a copy of the disc.
For instance if you use Nero there's a command in the menu
to Copy Disc. If you use Imgburn make an image of the disc
on your hd, then burn it to another disc. The process is
to find out if it's a hardware or software or media problem.

Divide everything so that it eliminates one category or the
other.

There are guides for performing all these operations so
I don't think it's useful to try to rehash off the top
of my head what's been edited and reworked until suitable
for publication. If all else fails try VCDEasy.

I burnt another copy of the good VCD and it works just fine in the DVD player. So this would mean that it's a Real Player problem. Could they have changed the way Youtube videos are downloaded or are encrypted ?

There customer support has been less than helpful with this problem.

Or maybe I should just dump Real Player as a burner and use Nero.

It's up to you but most people I know use
Imgburn for burning. There are a lot of
free converters out there these days but
most of them require a bit of study to
know what they're up to. Not necessarily
hard to use.

One of the most powerful is AviSynth. Most
free converters use it at some point. You
can do quite a bit with it including cropping,
cleaning up video, getting rid of jaggies etc..

Probably some guides around here someplace.
