I have an avi file and its srt sub file. I would like to hardcode the subs at the very top of the movie as opposed to the usual bottom position. Usually I just use AVI ReComp to add the sub srt file then burn to disc with Nero. But I really need to reposition them this time. Thanks for your help.

    Load/drag the AVI into Avidemux.
On the top menu click 'Video' => 'Filters'
    Choose 'Subtitles' and 'Subtitler'.
Select colour, position and preview then 'Close' back to main screen.
Note that the main screen allows switching between input and output view.
On the left side menu, change 'Video' to 'MPEG-4(XviD)'.
    Change 'Format' to 'AVI'.
Click the 'Save' logo and give the file a new name including extension (e.g. newfile.avi).

When and how do i add the actual srt file? When I open the avi then try to open the srt it gives the message "unable to open file". The subs play perfect when i open the avi file to play with Nero Showtime. Maybe i'm missing a step somewhere. Thanks.

Also when i initially open the avi file i get a message saying "Index is not up to date. You should use->tool rebuild frame. do it now?" I choose yes, it takes about 45 seconds. After this step is when I tried to open the srt file.

So far ive gotten the new file with the subs at the top. I can open and play the file in Nero Show Time. When I try to load it into Nero Vision to burn to disc it does nothing. When I right click on the file to see the properties for type of file it just states "file". All the settings were set to match the ones in your illustration. I need this on disk so i can bring it to a class at school. Thanks for you time , i really do appreciate it.

Did you give the new file a new name (including extension) eg newfile.avi
