hi peeps i'm getting my girlfriend a toshiba laptop with windows vista installed, (xmas present) i'm looking for step by step instructions on how to uninstall vista and put windows xp onto it as some of the programmes she will be using will not run on vista please help me out thanks in advance 07anto07
I just did this the other day. I had to slipstream drivers into my windows CD as the traditional installation disk would not even detect the hard drive during the install of XP. After XP was loaded, Toshiba of course does not support most of the drivers for XP for vista loaded machines. You then have to figure out who makes every piece of hardware ( IE Realtek for the sound, Atheros or intel for the wireless ) ETC ETC and go directly to that manufacturer to download the driver. Happy hunting! I found all of mine in about 90 minutes
thanks for the reply barricade so i just format the hardrive on the laptop and install xp from the disc?
hi ddp how's thing's m8 i'm lookingf at a few at the moment Toshiba Satellite Pro A300D-14N - Turion X2 RM-70 2 GHz - 15.4 Inch TFT - PSAK9E-00C003EN Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-18P - Pentium Dual Core T2390 1.86 GHz - 17" TFT - PSPC1E-00M004EN this one i need to know how to do Toshiba Satellite L40-14N Notebook
Do you already have the laptop? If so, try to install XP. If it cannot find the hard drive, first check the BIOS and see if there is anything related to "SATA Mode" like AHCI, IDE. If it is AHCI, switch it to IDE mode and try to install the OS. If no luck, then google "NLite" and download that to make yourself a slipstreamed CD with the hard drive drivers loaded. THe chipset for that laptop is the exact same as the one I did. Head Here Load these files in the "add driver" section in the nlite program. After windows is installed, Here are the chipset and video drivers. Realtek makes the sound www.realtek.com and the wireless is either Atheros or intel. Download Everest and it might tell you the names of your uninstalled devices . If you make it this far post a reply!!

the link didn't work for some reason as it usually does. on "Product type", click on notebook on "Family", click on satellite on "Product series", click on satellite L series on "Model", click on satellite L40 on "Short Model No", leave as All on "Operating system", click on windows xp then click on search
