I have burned over 800 disk's using Verbatim DVD-R with 0 coasters.

I need some more disks and I can get a bargain for +R. Just wondering if there would be any change going from - to +

no change ,plus you can't booktype with your NEC burner so there would be no advantage to buy the DVD plus R. the format isn't near as important as the brand, stick with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim don't be tempted by the inexpensive media

1)The main issue when switching to the opposite format,is stand alone player compatability. You may not want to make a huge quantity of plus format media and find out one or more of your stand alone players,pc drives,or game consoles give you a no disc/dirty disc/illegal disc/wrong region/or wrong format message.

If dash format is working best for you,I'd stick with it.Some dvd drives can have issues when switching formats and even brand names of blank media. We call these drives the Picky Drives.

A couple of buddies of mine had NEC 2500 burners, and they highly favored the dash format. They had difficulty playing their own plus format backups and one of my buddies said their player wouldn't play plus format at all. I slapped him one of my booktyped +r backups and he had no problem with it. I didn't tell him I changed the booktype to dvd-rom,LOL!!!

2)The second issue is for some unknown reason, dash format is cheaper to purchase from net stores as apposed to the plus format. Same price for either format at all Brick and mortar stores. That mystery may never be solved, LOL!!!

3) Last, that I am aware of,there's lots of very good quality inkjet printable media out there, only in the dash format. Full Hub shiny and Taiyo watershields. My compatability goes down with them, but my covers look better than the originals.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I just got 3 "100 spindle" Verbatim DVD-R for 24.99 each. That is a really good buy. I got a manager at Office Max to give me last weeks deal becasue I could not make it to the sale, what a nice guy.

joegeek- That's a Fair Price If you need more Maybe check samsclub I got 3 50ct. cakeboxes/spindles for $10.87 apiece @ a Samsclub in New orleans on Friday ! just the Regular Verbatims( Non-printable surface ) and only the 50ct. tubs were onsale @ this price But pretty sweet deal nne the less Bought 4 Cakeboxes= 200Blanks DVD+R 's But the DVD-r were the same price ! FWIW I too have a NEC-2500 That I made into an external Drive After getting some newer drives and I never had much of a problem with DVD+R 's I mainly used the DVD-r's Then though !But the information the other Gentleman gave you is valid ! For The Most compatible disc Short of a Commercially Pressed DVD ( Movie , Game software ect..)Go with a Booktyped DVD+R - Requires a DVD burner that has Booktyping Capability and a DVD+R, DVD+RW, or DVD+R DL Disc ! If you are'nt booktyping I'd stick with The DVD-R for compatablity ! if your players ,Burners , and the like have no compatablity problems with eiher DVD+R or DVD-R then use whichever you prefer or get the best deal on assuming that your comparing Apples to apples ( Same quality level media ) and like tyhe others said -Online retailers always charge more for BULK DVD+R media they just do ! Hop[e this helps Ciao !!!!
