I know this task is carried out by windows itself.. but ive never seen it taking 100.000kb of resources!!! lets see

My pc is quite big. thermaltake cover and was VERY FAST!
    Windows Xp SP 2 2002..
INTEL PENTIUM D CPU 3.00 GHz - 3.25 GB RAM
and physical adress extension(dont know wat it is - probably dont need to!)

now i think this is because of a virus eating up my computer resources acting through windows but ive run BITDEFENDER 2008 FULL AND DEEP SYSTEM SCAN and nothing!

PROBLEM : is not while i use the pc... its when i STARTUP one of the svchost uses 90.000k!!! right now i have 8of these tasks on and max one is using 9.000K

is the number correct?? why is it Using so many resources at startup¿?
After the thing being loaded if i hit task manager its using up those 90 - 100.000K and it takes 1 MINUTE or 2 to start mozzilla or Itunes or MSN !!

Used to take a couple of seconds....

thank you very much for ur help...

    Hi Vampiro

This is nothing abnormal... it's not supposed to be the first time you've seen it.

This is the Windows Automatic Update servie taking effect. When you boot, it will take up loads and loads of Ram, including wuauclt.exe. This feature is quite annoying and resource consuming, so many users have chosen to disable the Automatic Updates.

    Best Regards :D

Just check where svchost.exe is running from.. It should be system32 .. if it's my documents or anywhere else unusual it's malware.

    Hey Vampiro93

When svchost uses 90,000 K of memory, is there a process called wuauclt.exe?

Did you disable Automatic Updates through the Control Panel? Sadly, this will not work... you will have to disable Automatic Updates in the services.msc panel.

Click on Start > Run, and type in services.msc. Scroll down till you see Automatic Updates, right click on it, click on Properties, and set Startup Type to Manual. Restart, and see if your problem is gone.

    Best Regards :D
