To put films onto the DS they have to be in a specific format, due to the limitations of the DS you may find that some of the films stutter very slightly or in fast moving action have a slight blurring effect, however most work very well.

    To Convert

If you use the program called SUPER then it will convert any format to any other format, however I have found that they can suffer from Lip Sync errors if the original source is not perfect. For this example I will use a DVD and convert it to play on the DS.

Install DVD Shrink and Super onto your PC (use Google to find them)

First you need to get the DVD on to your hard drive, Start DVD Shrink and insert a DVD into your computer (don’t play it). To make thinks easier at this point go in to the menu at the top and select

Edit – Preferences – Output Files – and un tick the option Split VOB files into 1GB chunks, then select OK
This means that your movie will be in one piece rather than in separate bits and will not have to be joined together later.

Now use the open disc button in the top left (select OK in the box that appears) and the program will scan the disc to see what is on it (takes about 1 min).
When finished you will need to select the re author button, this is where you select the bit of the movie you want (i.e only the main feature not all the menus and extras). Click on the bit you want (usually the largest file under the Main Feature on the left and drag it across to the other side and drop it there (under DVD Structure), now click Backup from the top menu. It will then ask you where to put the movie, select / remember where it is going to be and click OK – the movie will now be backed up onto your hard drive (takes about 15 mins).

The movie is now on the hard drive and needs to be converted into a dpg file, to do this start the SUPER program. This may come up with some problems on its initial start up (memory too small etc, ignore these but if you have a better PC use that!

This program is not over friendly to use but needs very few settings changed to work successfully.

In the top left of the program you will see a drop down box, labelled Output Container, drop this down and select Nintendo – DS (dpg) near the bottom. This has set the format for the movie.

Next you need to put the movie to be converted into the program – In the bottom box (below streaming Link) right click, at the top of this menu is add multimedia file, Click this and select where you put your movie from DVD shrink, the file you want is the large VOB file, located in the VIDEO folder. Once selected this has added the file to be converted. The last task is to put the movie once converted somewhere where you can find it, right click the box again (below Streaming Link) select Output File Saving Management, Double click where you want the file to go, (or tick the box Save each output file in its respective source files folder/directory and it will go into the folder with the vob file) save changes.

To start converting by pressing Encode – and wait about 45 mins for a film, but this is dependant on how quick your PC is.

Once converted rename the file to the film name (don’t forget to add .dpg at the end) put on the SD card for the M3 and away you go.

Followed all instructions and started to convert by pressing encode.
But seemed to be going no where just saying parsing input file...
stopped and said something abut activex controls and to tick direct show decode , but that stopped quicker and said to uncheck direct-show code box.

Also put a mp3 song into a folder called music ,but wont play.

Do i need moon-shell , and where's the best place to get it and do i put it in its own folder or in with the system folder.

    cheers

    1) you cannot download films in .dpg as they are still covered by the copyright.

    2) Parsing - that is normal - nothing seems to happen for ages then it starts to show a line to show its progress - can take a long tims on a slow PC, and sorry never had the active decode message, just a long wait and completed message.

On M3 real moonshell is included, on the main menu (with 7 icons ) hit the one with the film strip and music note, hit this and then select My Music, second icon down, select music to play!

    .avi

yes you can convert them using SUPER

however .dpg is a very fussy format, if there are any lip sync errors in the avi file (even hardly noticable ones) you may find it is very bed when converted, but always worth a try.

    Skins

You can make them yourself, I downloaded some from gbatemp.net and they worked well, but now using Sakura software triple boot so no longer using a skin

The film needs to be started by moonshell, I have an M3 card and this is integrated into the software, unfortunately I have no experience of R4 but hopfully there are some other posts to help you.

On an R4 you have to launch the .dpg file from the Multimedia menu (middle button using the default Moonshell setup).

I suggest you open a new thread. We should not be hijacking this one.

The file can go anywhere. I created a folder called "video" for all my video files.

I have an R4 running 1.18 that plays .dpg files fine. It's also possible that your conversion didn't work. You should find a known good .dpg file to test with.

There is also another way. First Download DVDFAB5. Select Option:Mobile. Open it and then select NDS from the left column. On the right, select your video to convert and the location of the place you want it to convert to. I recommend you put it on the MicroSD and just plug it in your r4, m3, or whatever. Hope this helps.
