Ive read that Mini DV is better quality that HDD camcorders - is this correct ?
We do tend to record quite a bit of family stuff, so quality does count, but I aint a professional ! I copy off my tapes to pc, and then use TMPGenc to improve the quality.

HDD cameras seem a little more expensive, but then you dont have to buy any more tapes. Im looking at around the £200 mark, and probably a Sony or Canon.
I'd love to get a camera that has analog input , but those are few and far between and seem to be at the top end of the market.

    Any thoughts guys ?

I prefer the video quality of miniDV tapes.

If you capture via firewire, you have lossless quality. How does TMPGenc improve lossless quality?
