Format used HDD to be used as external HDD

    I wish to use my old HDD as an external HDD in an enclosure, but it still has XP and all sorts of data on it. I need to format or reformat the old HDD so that it will be compatible with my present system - but I really have no idea of how to do this. Do I need to buy software? Would having Acronis True Image Home helo?
