Something to get off my chest

Look, I love Afterdawn. I've turned a great many people onto this site. For the things that matter to me Afterdawn is great.

But I stay far away from these forums because each and every time I've posted in here I've been berated, insulted and belittled by so called "addict" users and sometimes even mods. (no names, this is not a personal complaint)

So I've got a little reccomendation for you. Before you go to insult a poster you might just want to think twice. You do not know who you are talking to. The poster may just be a posting vetran who has hundreds of thousands of posts under his belt, not to mention the ADMINING of a Top 1000 forum.

You want to call me "noobish" because the signature check box was not appearing for me, fine... but to call me an idiot is going way too far.

I made a simple test post in this non-specific forum for the purpose of figuring out a feature and I not only got insulted by an "addict" but was told I should have solved this problem on my own and shouldn't have posted here.

I wonder which would have been easier. Deleting the "offending" test post or pointing out the "wrongness" of what I did?

 

I think that Creaky gave you the correct answer. I did not see any animosity in his post.

Before I tested my avatar, and signature, a few years ago, I had read the post about sending myself a PM to test it.

I did not read but a couple of your posts, but I saw no berating, or insulting posts, in reply to your posts.

 

Yea, this site is full of children and drunks. They love to jump on you and make stupid comments as soon as they've read something they don't seem to like. For instance, take this post below.

The reply to the first post was totally uncalled for. His post didn't even have any relevance to what the OP was talking about. I haven't been to this site in a few weeks and I come back to what I've come to expect from most of the users here.

Now there are some really cool people here, don't get me wrong. But like I said, there are lots of ignorant people here that just get off on bashing people.

Anyways...

Now don't get offended by this, but I have somewhat of a sick and twisted humor. When I read the title to this thread, then saw your USERNAME, I thought you were confessing to touching little boys.

I was almost afraid to read the replies to this post but I am very glad I did.
I knew in my heart that the users at Afterdawn were some of the best, most intellegent people on the web and I must have just had a pretty bad day yesterday.
Yeah, I know about the drunk children posters and I should have known better.
And for the record, Creaky's response was fine and he's a great mod, (that's why I didn't post his name), it's just that his reply came after a totally uncalled for reply from another user that really just pissed me off. I had a nice long response entered for that poster but ended up deleting it and posting a much kinder response (because I just don't like to roll that way) and still got the response from Creaky which just pushed an exposed button that was not his fault in the least.

Anyway, another day, another post, as they say.

It's funny you posted the quote above, because I was going to defend the OP myself in that particular thread.

Got a problem with being called a n00b.. stop acting like one.. It's only the internet. I get called much worse in real life to my face on an almost daily basis from some dangerous scum or other. It's not a nice society we live in.. easier to accept it now than find out under the boots of a thug.

Anyway.. I didn't directly call you names in your "I can't be bothered looking at what is in front of me" thread.. I just added what I felt like calling you XD .. I left the dig for my "why the hell do we bother" topic

Plenty of other sites that like n00bs and eat them for breakfast... actually we are a pretty nice bunch as long as people look first before posting.. and don't get on their high horse when somebody more experienced at whatever it is comes along and makes their ears burn..

I tried to exit this thing gracefully by apologizing for the harsh words, but not the message and you jump right back up on that high horse and start flailing away again?
Do you polish that ego yourself or do you hire "noobs" to do it for you?

I have no problem being called a Noob. You can call me noob all you want. It only shows your noobishness. I never acted like one. The "feature" was not there. The checkbox did not exist until I posted in the regular forum. It was a BUG, not noobishness that prompted the post.

As I stated above I did look. I worked on the issue for several days and it was my desire to not muck up the news forums that prompted a simple test post in the safety valve forum which seemed designed for such things. I didn't post in an inappropriate forum. I didn't post in a news forum, I posted in the appropriately named "safety valve" which is supposed to be for such things. In other words, I did it CORRECTLY. Your attempt to belittle me by calling my thread title "I can't be bothered looking at what is in front of me." only shows that you didn't READ my response above. It's YOU who is not paying attention and acting the noob! As for "Why the hell do we bother?" I find myself asking.. "Why the hell do I care?" Most of us who participate on forums by helping users tend to do it because A) we enjoy it and B) we get gratification from helping others and C) it's fun and educational. I really have no idea why YOU do it. If you don't know why, maybe you should just stop?

There's that ego again. Trust me, I've been chewed out (and done my share of chewing) on forums which would eat this entire website for lunch. This is hardly an issue for me.
Maybe before you start talking about high horses and more experience you might just take a look at yourself.
In your need/desire to get a dig in on me you completely ignored the fact that I just really didn't need your help. As a matter of fact I was perfectly capable of solving my issue on my own and your little rant did nothing other than show the world just how little you actually are. I've been a member since 19 January 2004. I'm hardly new.

Now, go back to surfing the sight for any little thing you can misconstrue into a "noobish" problem so that you can insult the user and feel big.
But don't be surprised when every once in a while someone calls you on it.

 

I doubt that very much You haven't a clue about my world or the websites I inhabit away from here. How about sites where every post is approved by a moderator before being published and no edits are allowed to stop hate crimes?

You quoted me talking about this site (of which you are not a moderator) and used that as a reason to try to brag about admining and modding?

I have my experience and you have yours. If what you say is true then our experience is probably similar.
The difference is that I don't need to point it out.
