About two days ago I bought a game on Steam. But when I try to play the game the screen goes blank. At first pressing keys does nothing, but after about 5 minutes pressing the space back sends me back to the desktop. If I leave the screen blank for too long an error report thing pops up and asks if I want to send an error report. I know that the game works, but why won't it work on my PC?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Check your firewall settings, it sounds like you can't connect to the steam network/servers. You basically need to "Allow" steam to go thru.

Could you describe exactly what the error report says.
Sounds like it might even be a graphics card issue.

Open up Steam -> My Games -> Click the spesific game you are having problems with (right mouse button) -> Properties -> Launch Options

    Type following command there...

    -dxlevel 81

And try to launch the game. If you can run it with this, you have problem either with DirectX or your gfx -card.

do you meet game minimum requirements?

games which you download from a website such as metaboli usually require a slightly more powerful pc than just the minimum requirements. this is because the game files aren't optimally installed. i have noticed this difference. (this isn't the black screen solution, just a lag solution.)
