I'm facing two problems with my Windows XP: 1: The computer won't shutdown.(The screen saying ''Windows is shutting down...'' stays on the monitor and the pc wont turn off). 2: The wallpaper I set for my desktop changes to blank black upon every start of the windows. Somebody plz help me resolve this damn prob.
Try rebooting in safe mode. If successful go to Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Change Desktop Backround. Pick a default XP backround. While there check that your desktop resolution setting is correct. Restart. I've seen a simple change like this set things right. If that didn't help it could be a sign of a video card problem or motherboard issue. Oh, and if you do get to restart in Safe mode, it wouldn't hurt to run your antivirus and antimalware if possible.
Don't know about 1 but I had something exactly the same to 2 except I got a blank blue screen on every restart with all my icon's there and still working fine. My fix was to go to Display (Appearence and Themes) where the proper wallpaper was displayed but couldn't be accessed. I changed it to Window's Classic, my modified theme disappeared as a choice and I redownloaded the wallpaper in a different Aspect Ratio. Worked so far, been a few week's. Never did find what caused it, hope this help's.
