My previous post was deleted becuse my title wasn*t descriptive enough. I hope this is better. I collect towers to test, repair, learn from, or to give to others who need/want one. Most of the towers I get are windos, with the os being 95 through xp, ocaisonaly. I donot have an OS CD, nor can I afford one, nor do I think I have the expertise to use it. What I would like to know, is there a way to download an XP PRO OS from the wb along with any other program that will configure the OS to work with the tower at hand? I have a tech friend who does this for me but the lead time can be long, and sometimes he tells me the tower is not a good enogh one technically to be worth the effort, lower quality board, ect. Of couese installing an xp hard drive from another machine never works. Does this sound feasible?

Sure, some will depending on RAM but while it's probably a decent thought, you can't seriously expect help here with what is piracy. By the way, the OS you download from the web is the same as the commercial CD except some have program's installed, some won't work, some need key's, some may infect the computer, etc. Why not have a look at a Linux install, most are free and if you download a Live CD to install, you can preview it first without installing it. More of a learning curve to it, Ubuntu is popular, OzOS is one I like, there are literally a hundred to look at.

you can d/l any OS from the web but that would be stealing for they are all copyrighted. You could always go Linux for it is free and you could download installer cd's or bootable ones...For more ancient machinery you could use DamnSmallLinux or Puppy Linux. For better machines you could use Linux Ubuntu or Belenix.
