I have an external hard drive plugged into one of the3 usb ports on back the mobo. it has worked forever until i unplugged the drive to see if it eould work with my ps3 (nothing was running off the drive @ the time) when i plugged it back in the usb didn't recognize it anymore. i plugged it into another usb port on the front of the computer and it works fine.

my raid controller has an exclamation point on it now too. I've tried to restore the computer to an earlier time, and even went through add new hardware, and it won't detect hardware.

    is my mobo dying?

I doubt your motherboard is dying.

Go to device manager, (right click on my computer, manage, device manager) right click on everything under the Universal Serial Bus cpontrollers section and uninstall them all. Restart the pc and they should get re-installed again, it might ask you for a windows xp (or whatever os you are on) cd so have that ready.

If that doesn't work go to the motherboard manufacturers website and download the chipset drivers and any usb drivers if they are seperate and install them.

Still not working try windows update, make sure you install all the express updates and the hardware updates in the custom section.
