I just bought my blu-ray player. When watching a movie it does not take up the full screen. I have black bars at the top and bottome of the screen. My TV is set to 16:9 and the blu-ray player is also. My TV is a Samsung LN46a650 and the blu-ray player is a Samsung BD-P1500. I know there is a simple explanation to this, just don't know what it is.
The simple explanation is this: O. A. R. - or Original Aspect Ratio If your movie was shot in 1.85:1 aspect ratio then you won't see the black bars top and bottom. Thank you for the help. For some dumb reason I thought that if I had a hdtv that displayed 16:9 and blu-ray player that did the same it would fill the screen, but I understand now.
What is the point of "Scope" widescreen? I sell electronics's and I never new how to answer this question. now I know Thank you Great link
indeed! 16x9 FHA (full height anamorphic) within 4x3 Letterbox is one of the most pointless screen formats to grace this earth!
it is normal. not all movies/programs are filmed or taped in the new 16:9 format. some tv's will allow a full screen display but the picture will be stretched to fit the screen.
