It is alledged that as of 24th December Virgin will have engineers checking for illegal boxes via the green cabinets at the end of the street. They say that will be able to identify houses that are receiving TV for free through this method. Is there any way they can do this? I am told that all boxes have a MAC address and they can do this. If you connect a genuine subscribed (minimum package) box, will this stop it?

having a box connected is wise, then they dont wonder why is he paying for tv and not recieving it!!

afaik, the green boxes at the end of the road are like hubs, theres nothing they can do there that the cudnt do sat at their end.

the only way that they can do this if they look for your account number on the tag on the cable and if you a current customer they wont disconnect you. even if you have brodband and dont have tv the cant dis your cable because you need the live feed for your brodband. i have done this in the past when i have worked for VM its called cab maintenance and they only do it on really congested cabs.

I'll keep an eye open for him ... and as soon as he's gone I'll pop over the road and reconnect :)

total nonsense, VM are paying off over 2000 people and they are going to waste time and resources having engineers(who probably have the boxes themselves) checking for illegal one's. like the previous poster said, they need to keep paying customers connected for broadband etc, what ive done is always kept the basic £5.50 package that way everything looks legit

hi,lots of people panicking for nothing vm know people are using these boxes and clearly could do something about it if they wanted to,however if they did they would lose millions in broadband and phone lines people would switch to sky as a result,my advice though is to make sure you have a minimul tv package with them ,then they cant switch you off at green box at the end of street. one other thing dont tell any tom dick and harry that you have a box or the boys in blue could be knocking at YOUR door.

my mate works for virgin he was telling me about this also. its not green cabinets but there actually using green motorised tents (well tent looking thing) they got wheels on the bottom and a virgin engineer controls the tent with a joy stick and they goes up and down different streets inside the tent with a little device that beeps when its by a house that is using an illegal box.

the tent only stops moving when the virgin engineer sees someone this is so people don't find them out and tell all there friends that the green tent is hanging about the area which means people will unplug there boxes and it will be mission failed.

when the device has found a house that is using a illegal box virgin send out a guy in a suit to who has rights to come into your house and take your box BUT he has to show you his green tent liscense first cuz theres been rumours of people pretending to be virgins green tent drivers and taking peoples boxes and selling them down the pub so just be carefull.

    hope this helps x

What a lot of people do is have their second box in another room, so they can watch in two rooms. :)

If you don't have the box plugged in it can't talk back.

Yes the box needs to be plugged in to the mains to send a signal.
