I am trying to play an avi file ()which plays ok on the PC both sound and vision)on a Sony LCD 1080 TV. I have connected my PC with and HDMI to the HDMI input on TV. Picture is fine but no sound. The sound on the PC is not muted and the file plays through the pc speakers ok. PC in a different room hence I want to get sound from TV. Thanks in advance.

What is the output out of your computer. Is is HDMI or is it VGA/DVI. They don't transmit sound. HDMI is the only connection that transmit sound. So this might be your problem. If so then you will need a seperate audio cable + the HDMI cable.

    Hi drew1000,

Please let me know how you get along with this, I'm having exactly the same problem. I have the HDMI out from my pc into the HDTV. I get picture but no sound whatsoever. I'll report back if I find a way and vice versa mate. Cheers

just a thought but have you set your media player to play through hdmi sound device and not system default sound device.eg when i use media player classic i have to go into options on media player and choose audio output hdmi audio as it is set normally to system audio.

another thing came to mind, when you go into control panel, then sound and audio devices, you will see speaker settings.click on advanced and you will see speaker setup,i had to change my setting from the drop down list from headphones which i use on pc to moniter stereo speakers for sound to come through tv.your setting may be different on your tv ie surround sound etc,but i would deffinently play around with those settings as well.
