Im building a new HTPC I need some advice regarding the Type of graphics card i should be looking into. My receiver supports HDMI passthrough so i will need HDMI output. What cards do you guys use / would recommend.? Reason why im asking is ive tried to run PC -> DVI -> HDMI -> reveiver -> TV from my existing gaming computer and i could not get the signal to pass through my receiver for the life of me VIA HDMI. I even bypassed my reveiver and went direct to TV but still got no signal. I read somewhere there are Syncing issues with hooking up a Video card directly to a TV via HDMI. (is this still true>?) I was able to buy a VGA to Component converter and pass component via the pioneer receiver. This time i would like to go all digital. I have an NVIDIA 8800 gts graphics card. If i bypass the receiver and run direct DVI -> TV it works. What cards do you guys use / would recommend.? This HTPC will be used as an access point to a 20tb raid 5 storage server via a Gigabit network. I will be storing all of my dvd movies/Blu rays on this system.
I've just set up an HTPC system. I used an ATI HD4850 which carried sound and video if required, via DVI to HDMI convertor supplied with the card, this works fine to both a processor and straight to a sony and samsung TV, no issues with sound at all. I however have set it up to go video only via same convertor (HDMI) into an Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 card, that then adds the sound to the line and then onto an Onkyo processor and then the TV. I haven't tried the HDMI sound on an Nvidia card, but can recommend the ATI cards, just get something with some clout if you want to do HD playback.
