SVCD quality and size issue

Im new also...but I have acheived copying a VCD and SVCD but I was wondering about the quality of the picture--is it supposed to be grainy? What can I expect as far as a decent picture? i am using smartripper and DVDx, then using Nero to burn it. Any better programs out there?

DVD2SVCD is easy to use, we have a guide for it at here:
