i have burned over 1000 Verbatim DVD-R's with no problem with my old NEC ND-2500.
I recently updated my system with a faster chip, more RAm and a Samsung SH-S223Q and 2 coasters right off the bat.
The first burn was lightning fast, then about 3 minutes in, it said could not burn, error.
Before the second burn, i went into properties and lowered to speed down to 16x, the second disk burned in 5 minutes, but when I took it out and popped it into my DVD player to test, the plaer said "no play".
I burned another disk, same thing, super fast, noprobs but when I tested it, "no play".
What is up?
I am using DVD Fab Platinum 5. I have used it with my old NEC for a year with 0 coasters.

Hi,
but pardon me for asking, but why are you burning so fast?
All my friends here at AD tell me to burn at 1/2 of the speed rating of the disc, and no more for consistantly good burns.
Is it possible that your new burner need a firmware update (although new out of the box,it may not be updated to the latest firmware)

I was thinking about the speed a few minutes ago and you may be right.
I will lower the speed and try another disk. if itstill messes up, I will head over to Sammy and check out the firmware.

May I suggest upgrading the firmware prior to burning another disc at the lower speed ?

nd-2500 .. you are lucky it still burns at all.. slow down. It's an old burner and doesn't really support burning above 4x let alone 8x (which was the tops when it was made)
Think about it.. take a 4 year old quality bit of kit and it works well with hardware of similar vintage (probably a 100 or 133MHz fsb) then you slam it in something 4 or 8 times faster and expect it to run like a brand new piece of hardware... Even the 3550 won't burn reliably at 16x .. and anyway.. you get godawful burns at that speed.

Hi,
Go here: http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/
Firmware / Download then search for: SH-S223Q
Search for the firmware that will be for your drives.
Either SB02 or ST02 depending on your drive.
