ok so there's all these post for mkv files to avchd. but are these steps correct to back up a blu ray film? rip to hd with anydvd hd then simple burn to a blank bd-r 25gb/50gb using imgburn with udf at 2.5? is it that simple or is there something else that needs to be done?

    thanks,

Yes it basicly is rip image>burn image.

The fun starts when you want to compress a movie onto a smaller disc.

50 Gig blank blu rays are still very expensive.

u can by a 5 pack of tdk 50GB bd-r for 70.00 CAD on ebay so that works out to about 14.00 per disk. which isn't that bad compared to 25GB for 10.99.

also i found that there were other folders on the blu ray other then BDMV AND CERTIFICATE.

on 1 disk there is a AACS folder on it is that the protection? also on another there was a SLY! folder? not sure what they are?

If your using AnyDVDHD you can get it to remove the protection. Their web site has usefull guides and forums on how to do what your after.

Those are good prices compared to what i have found in the UK!

You don't even need to burn to image, that takes even longer than a regular rip. Just use the Rip to Harddisk feature in AnyDVDHD, then burn the two folders (BDMV and Certificate) to your BD using the UDF 2.5 file system. IMGBurn will work, I use Cyberlink, it's the software that came with my BD drive.

If it's not too much trouble, I have a question that I think might be related to this. I wish to do what he is doing but instead of just one blu-ray movie I want to back up several movies/blu-ray disks to a single disk so I don't have to bring all my movies with me when I go traveling. So how would I go about doing this?

Also, I want something besides AnyDVD HD to do the encoding/compression. I was directed to TSmuxer and several other programs on the AnyDVD forums, but if there are more options I would like to know about them. I'm working with a limited amount of technical knowledge, so the less steps involved, the better it would be for me.
