Ok so i downloaded some .mkv movies used tsmuxer. now of the 3 movies i tried

1-iron man 720p mkv worked video and audio but with green bar.

2-crank 1080p mkv NO VIDEO but audio worked? 5.1 was moved down to 4.1 for playback on ps3 and still that didn't work.

3- Matrix Revolution 1080p same as crank?

why did i get video with the 720p? and not with true 1920x1080? when everyone is saying if u get a true 1280x720= 720p, and 1920x1080= 1080p u don't have to resize and therefor elimate the GREEN BAR?

i used imgburn for all 3 movies with udf at 2.5.I did compare the 720p and the 1080p mkv's in media info. here is CRANK in 1080p

so why do we need to recode the true 1920x1080p files? i thought only if they r not true 1280x720 and 1920x1080. i tried so many times with MeGui to try to recode the iron man 720p. avisynth is installed and i make the .avs script with notepad but it won't load in MeGui. i keep getting error could not load script. also the guides show to download XolocoTuxmaster's bluray profiles and put them in MEGUI's profiles\video directory first. all i see is a all profile folder and no video profile/directories. are there any real mkv files out there that don't need to recode video or audio to play correctly on PS3 blu ray player?

The 1080p files that need to be re-coded were initially encoded for playback on the PC, and not for Blu-ray/PS3. If you are having trouble with MeGUI maybe try Ripbot264, it's a little more user friendly. There are some 1080p files, mostly newer ones that are ready to play, unless the uploader provides the encoding stats the only way to tell would be to download the sample, if provided first and test.

99% of the time it's the Reference Frames, or ref=, that value for 1080p mkvs should be 4 or lower. For 720p mkvs I believe it is either 10 or 12, I'm not sure though.

Notice in my first response to you, I hightlighted the ref=5 value, that is generally a first indicator if it will be playable on the PS3/standalone or not.

Most of the time yeah, or you can save yourself the bandwidth (and grief) and download the sample that usually comes with it first. Or sometimes the uploader provides the stats direcetly on the website or in the .nfo file.
