OK this may be a dumb question but can i install xp on one CPU then remove the hd and place it into a different CPU? I'm having problems doing a fresh install on my dads comp. whenever it tries to restart it just hangs and says cant load operating system. so i was going to try and install it on my comp then just switch them out

Unfortunately you can't. The install is to dependent on the core components of the hardware. You could however do this with windows 95 or 98.

I'd say you'd want to take a look at the ram in side your dads computer.
