just wondering ive heard of some people fitting sata hdds and would like to try if there is a tut out there some where?
i know someone put one in, but you need an ide to sata converter to connect the sata hd to your ide cable. the only problem you might have is the position of the connector on the ide cable and the connector of the harddrive's sata connector (you have to fiddle around with the cable to get it to fit. purely for this reason, just buy a ide drive. no hassle, and it physically fits perfectly. both ide and sata are the same price, and you do not need to buy a converter. i'm not sure if cache size matters, but the drives that i had (0,5 mb cach to 8 mb cache) where all the same speed when copying (ftp) files over. on average around 9000-11000 kb per second.
I usually buy the multimedia drives with the 16mb cache. It does make a difference loading games and watching movies. Even when you turn on the xbox and it has to build the games list, it will take a lot less time if you buy a multimedia drive. go for a ata133/16mb drive if you can.
SATA are cheaper in the UK aswell, anyways I put a 500GB SATA in ours at the weekend and it worked great! When the next adaptor arrives I'm putting a 750GB in mine. Here's the thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/734790 Only the alst post is possibly relevant to you. I used this adaptor: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12537 It's $5.29 with free world wide shipping.
