Hey, I'm relatively new to Linux and messing with computer hardware (usually just do software stuff). Question is: How do I clear my hard drive of everything and start new with a fresh version of linux? I'm going to install ubuntu or opensuse with virtualbox and wine. On my computer I already have windows vista and ubuntu in a dual boot configuration. I want to get rid of the dual boot and simplify! So if somebody could tell me the easiest way to do this it would be greatly appreciated!!! I really want to get rid of the dual boot! And with virtualbox I could still use windows whenever I want and need to. I'm very excited to try the virtual machine! It looks cool and I could also test out the windows 7 beta. Thanks in advanced!!!!
you managed to install ubuntu.. this time just install it to the whole hdd instead of only part of it... or use something like cfdisk or gparted and dispose of the fista partition, make a new one then format it ext3 or something like it and mount it to somewhere.. /home/data or whatever.. then just add it to /etc/fstab. don't bother with "windows7" just more fista dressed up a little different.. same old M$ shite with added drm and activation headaches.. not worth the effort of downloading.. It will be yet more crap from the morons at redmond who wouldn't know a secure ond stable os if it bit them.. that's by the time the retail version comes out and all the n00bs are thoroughly locked in yet again...... dump your windows dependency/addiction if you want help from the linux community.. or we will just keep calling you a n00b and a sheep XD Happy New Year
It took the better part of 10 years to build Vista and look at how warmly it has been received. And after only 3 years they have another version. Ever heard of the Mojave Experiment? Microsoft refuses to believe that Vista is the "chrome plated turd" as others have described it, so now the experiment gets to go global. Just a glorified service pack is all. Unless you have something specific to do with a virtual machine, don't get too excited. It will be slow and have very poor graphics performance. You'll only really want to fire it up if you have a very specific job you want to achieve. Best off just trying to survive without Windows completely, it isn't hard at all really.
