Hi all, I just got a USB Null Modem cable and followed the advice from here http://www.freewebs.com/starview-update/ Im running Vista Premium 32 bit but i cant find the Port icon in Device manager all there is that i can see is "Other Devices" and "USB2.0-Ser" any help on this would be greatful
No disk came with it, but i did download the driver from here as directed http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm
take out your usb and go into device manager then plug in usb you should see COM & LPT appear if its not coming up its a driver problem ,,, are you shour it didnt come with a small disk they usualy do
thanks for your patience, got the port setting now but have a yellow exclamation mark beside the Communications Com4 when I go to properties and update driver it cant find the driver i installed as stated above
do you no the make of the usb if you put that in google whoever makes it will probably have a driver for it and read here http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/c39bd203-f729-47a4-8351-83291e13c8a81033.mspx
Everything checks out ok as far as I can see, ive googled the brand and a bit of an issue as regards some ppl didnt recieve the cd and when they did the wrong software on it

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, Bigdunc I was trying to run the new software from my laptop with USB to RS232cable, so that I could drop down to my fathers and sisters house aswell as my inlaws, without having to take all the box's up to mine and reflash them, but thats life. Tryabit, again thankyou but I have tried that driver and no, ive done a bit of looking around in my Device Manager and I dont have any "Ports" eg "Comms+LPT" Ive looked for them but they're not there. Im going to give it a break for a while as the laptop went down as I was installing and uninstalling drivers to get the USB cable to work and somewhere it died. But thanks again
