Squares Instead Of Characters - Help Please !

    I have just recently formatted my computer and loaded Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3. I noticed that when I use Windows Live Messenger, my contacts that have Chinese characters or special character show up as squares instead of the actual characters. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this problem
