Happy Happy New year to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guys My PC is drunk. It boots slowly and the audio,vedios and games can no longer play properly and after some short time it goes off on its own. I realised that the processor fan was not tight but i fixed it and it still goes off after some time. The machine have three fans including the one for power supply. What could be the solution to this. I am realy in need of help guys.
if the CPU cooler wasn't attached properly, I suggest you remove it entirely, clean off the existing thermal paste on it and the CPU (you can use rubbing alcohol or window & glass cleaner rather than buy special stuff) and then put new thermal paste on the CPU only, and put the heatsink back, ensuring it is correctly attached.
Could there be anything damaged during this over temperature or is it doing right to shut down itself for protection. What kind of thermal paste do you recommend.
Usually no, it should be safe, that's why it's shutting down, to prevent being damaged by overheating. I usually recommend either OCZ Freeze or Arctic Silver V.
YOh Sammoris, man I eventually found one thermal compound and did as you said. WOh it is working fine now.Can you tip me on how to check the CPU temperature so that I may determine if its constant or something else. You are the BOSS man. Your are just not an addict on this forum but an expert. Keep it up.
There are many programs you can use to do this, Everest by Lavalys is a good tool for checking all kinds of system stats, but the free version is limited. Speedfan is also popular, it does far less, but is always free. Thanks for the compliment.
Guys what is the normal or recommended CPU temperature when the PC is playing media and when it is playing graphics games like NFS most wanted.Mine reads 38c-48c when if playing music and 68c-72c when in games.
If that's the core temperature, that's fine. If it's the actual CPU temperature, it's a bit on the hot side.
Sorry what is the core temperature? THis is because the Mother Board temperature is a bit lower all the time
If you have an older PC you may not have one. Install Speedfan and tell us if there is anything relating to core temperatures in there.
There is also a saying that this speedfan can be used to lower the noise that come from the cpu fan, can`t it make even too hot if the fan speed is reduced? I am downloading it now and will tell that core temperature, but what is this core temperature?
Is it also normal for the cpu temperature to flactuate more than the MOBO temperature, this is because its graph makes a lot of zik-zacs
Whenever your CPU is under heavy load, it will get hot. When it is not under load, it cools down again, so fluctuation is normal. The motherboard (specifically, chipset, as that's what it's measuring) temperature doesn't vary as much as the load on it is fairly constant. Speedfan can lower your CPU fan speed if your motherboard allows this feature, but if it's overheating already, that's not a wise plan. What processor do you have?
You won't be seeing core temperatures for that CPU, so the reading is right. That's too hot for a CPU really. I would recommend buying a new cooler for it, such as an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. Remember you will need to clean off the old thermal paste before you install it. You can use rubbing alcohol / window&glass cleaner for this purpose. The cooler will come with its own pad or paste you need to apply, as per the instructions.
OK, wouldn`t it make any harm to other PC parts. Can I proceed playing graphics games? in a meanwhile I am awaiting for funds to buy a good cooler.
Well, only if your PC used to be able to play games, it won't improve your performance beyond what it used to be capable of.
