My Starview 2 the box "genuine" goes - - - - on the lcd then just shows the box logo on my screen and the lcd shows the furthest right dash. I have tried the bad flash method but still the same anyone got any ideas i am desperate? I loaded thebox_h20081222_457eE_api.bin via rom loader v.4.03.
    Cheers

If you`re still having trouble with the bad flash, download the logo backround file from The B0x folder in eamos & try & flash the b0x again.

im having the exact same problem, i have flashed it with different software and i does something different each time. i put 4.51 back on and its stuck at the last green line, when i put anything else on it, it will flash on and then disappear. how does the bad flash method work?

If you want to follow the bad flash method (which it does appear you have) then click on the link marked Starview 1st at the bottom of my post and read down to the Bad Flash Recovery method. It would be advisable for you to try to recover using the 4.51 BIN and the GTRom Loader 4.00, and just keep trying okay, it's been known to work first time, but goes well in excess of 20 plus also.

thanks malci, it started to work on the 2nd go with 4.51, but still the same at the end with the last green line sticking and just a picture of the box on the screen

Can we just be sure that it is Starview 2 The Box that you are having the trouble with? - Is that what it says at the top left corner front of box.

Lads I dont like padding threads but please have a look through this and do what it says:

If you have a Bad Flash with software have a Read of This might help

If you have a bad flash, switch it off then on at the back & make sure its on standby.
Then Flash as normal. This also applies to flashing (up & downloading) the channel data file.
If for some reason you cannot flash and have set and checked everything else such as ports and connections,
then you should switch off at the back wait a moment then on again. Then try to flash again.

If for some reason it won't go into standby and you see a constant moving green line.
you may want to wait to see if it goes into standby or switches on eventually or re-flash from this state
though it may not work. Some users have reported that flashing an older firmware 1st that was working,
then trying again may help. If your flash has failed or corrupted try again but 1st flash back the firmware
that was on before your failed flash. Re download the firmware just in case you had a corrupted file then try again.
If you do flash from the moving green line state at boot, you will see the % increase on the GTRom loader
software but not on the Starview. Toward the end of the flash you'll see a Flash Burning message in GTRom.
Make sure you wait until all is finished and you see the Download complete pop up message in GTRom.

Another method you can use to recover from a bad flash, eg. the box won't boot to standby and is stuck
in pre standby, either after about 3 or 4 moving green lines the box sticks with the green line not moving
at all or it keeps moving forever. If the box will NOT RE-FLASH as normal from on or standby, try this but it
may take a few goes to work.

Connect the box to the pc with your cable but switch it off at the back. Load the correct
firmware bin file into GTRom & set it to the correct com port, and select App file only then hit Download.
Only then switch on at the back to power on the box. It may take a few sec. so wait at least 30 sec.
(If it doesn't work 1st time try also waiting a couple of sec. to switch on after pressing download in the loader.) It may take more than 1 try to work, but eventually you'll see the loader kick in and the % bar increase. You won't see the % on the Starview though. Only green lines moving left to right. Towards the end of the flash you'll see a message in GTRom saying FLASH BURNING. Then it will reach 100% and wait for the download complete pop up box to appear & the box will reboot back to factory setup. You will have lost any channel data previously on the box & will need to rescan & switch on EMU and set the box up from scratch.

If you don't know the state of the box switch it on see what happens see if there already has been a channel
scan done before-meaning there are channels on it working or not. If so tune to an unencrypted channel as above
    then standby then re-flash.

"If you are using a USB to Serial converter, once you have installed it you need to check if your PC is using the correct port for the GTRom loader. Otherwise GTRom will stay at 0% and return "Flash Failed" after about 30 seconds.

    Solution, click start/control panel/system/hardware tab/device manager.
Click the plus sign next to ports on the list. Your adapter will show up as a USB to Serial Bridge with the port number next to it.

If the port number is outside the 1-4 port range then right click on it select Properties/port settings/advanced.

On the bottom left of the pop-up screen you will see the port number with a drop down arrow, click on the arrow and select a port in the 1-4 range. Click OK and exit all. Select the same port in GTRom and everything should be OK."

After about 30 goes i finally got it to work on 4.51 with the version 4.00 gtrom loader. But then when i try to upgrade it to 4.52 or anything else i get the same problem and have to try and reload 4.51. Is this box not upgradable??

It is 100% a genuine starview 2 the box.

Yes it is upgradable, but are you switching to the GTRom 4.03 when you are going above 4.51, because you do need to, and also do not bother with the 4.52/53/54, go straight up to the 4.57 which you will find complete with Loader in Eamo's FTA Library.

thanks for the help again malci, i tried about 40 times and it eventually worked with 4.51 but after 100% the green line went to the fourth bar and stopped again. i then tried a normal reflash with 4.0 firmware and the box just flashed 0 and it went blank. any suggestions?

just got it working, put the 258ee firmware on it and the ON has come back at the front of the box. should i flash it straight away with the new loader and 457 firmware and logo file or put 451 on first?

liam, what state is the box in now, is it showing 0 on display or what, if it is then you need to have a look at the C11 Capacitor on the PSU board, (Remove from mains) and have a look to see if it is bulged or leaking, it is easily identifiable but have a look at Celtic's post and scOuser's here at this link. You do not need to bother removing the other cap as described, I am lead to beleive, but the C11 is a greenish and slightly larger, have a look anyway, the image link is broken at the minute and I have recently cleaned up my PC disk, so I can't put my hand on the image just now but I am sure someone will be along and be able to supply it to you. After saying all that, if your box is not showing any signs of life at all, then it looks like a possible JTag or replacement time, but let us know anyway.

Yes try that liam. Where Have you got that from 258 eE is an old one for the Starview 1, are you sure that you have The Box if you are then do below but make sure.!!!!!!

EDIT:- Put the 4.57 Firmware straight on, don't put the logo file, just that with the 4.03 Loader. For Starview 2 The Box only.
