my community where i live gives us 70 channels through basic cable with no box. my ? is all my hdtv's have 1 coax in the back. can i put a plitter on it so i can put a hdtv antenna and use my basic cable service also..
Give it a try. A splitter is fairly cheap. You may have to change the input to air, in order to get the HDTV antenna to work.
And possibly do a scan for channels each time you switch between air and cable. Don't know how many HDTVs retain separate channel settings between air and cable (mine doesn't, a Sharp).
You may not/should not have to. Have you checked to see if you're currently getting HD channels via the sub-channel. In my area (basic cable) I get a station on Channel 2, and it's HD version as channel 2.1 (2-1 on Toshiba TVs as I understand). There was a website with a map of HD channel availability per geographic area. (sorry, the name escapes me now) Better yet, check with your cable company to see what HD channels are available with basic cable.
