I want this build to last me at least 1-2 years or so.. I also want to run most games on max settings and still be able to rip, encode, and all that good stuff.. thanks for your time
personally i think that the 450VX is cutting close if you plan on OC your q6600. sure, you can run it fine, but if you overclock the cpu a lot, then i think thats pretty close. also, i would prefer having a little headroom to be safe or for future upgrades. im pretty sure you can run it fine, but for me that's close. plus a little for a 550VX wouldn't hurt, unless your on a really tight budget.
Problem is that I have already bought it =*[ But I honestly don't plan on overclocking it much, maybe like to 3-3.2GHz...
WHERE IS EVERYONE FINDING THESE 4970 CARDS? Everyone here seems to be buying one, but I can't even find a preview!
It doesn't exist, it's just people keep making the same typo. dragnandy: It should be fine, I'm overclocking a Quad core and 4870X2 on a 520W unit, and the HD4870 uses more than 70W less than the 4870X2.
What good things should I expect from this new computer. The computer i'm currently using is a super old HP computer with 382MB of RAM, an 800MHz Pentium 3 processor, an onboard graphics card, a 10/100 Mb/s LAN controller, and a 30GB 5400RPM HDD.. and USB 1.1.. what can I expect from this build? will my internet be faster? programs run flawlessly with no lag at all and finally be able to even install games?
Not only will everything be lightyears faster, the system itself would be considered quite fast as far as your average in-home PC goes. Like you should be able to play nearly any game without issue.
Q6600.. Honestly, do you guys think it's a little old? What would you guys rather get? I mean, Im using a pentium 3, this is like a 3 ton rolls royce up against a top-fuel dragster, but what would you rather get? 100-150 more bucks preferably? PS.. what's the hype about getting vista ultimate?
The Q6600 is old, but it's also cheap, and it still performs well for the price (sub $200). If you can afford the extra buy a Q9400 for $250, or better still, my CPU, a Q9550 for about $300.
What will the difference be from an overclocked Q6600 to 3GHz compared to a Q9550 at 3GHz? Also why do people choose vista ultimate over home premium?
Around 10-15%. However, 45nm Core 2 Quads offer higher initial clock speeds, and in some cases, better overclocking. Vista Ultimate is really a case of more features, it usually pertains mostly to networking.
Alright, I have just ordered a nice keyboard and mouse, corsair dominator 2x2gb 1066 ram, sapphire hd 4870, samsung dvd burner, and a tuniq tower. But the Tuniq tower brings me up to my next question, will it fit beautifully on a EP45-UD3R Motherboard?
@eddie, The Tuniq tower will fit the EP45-UD3R but you have to mod the hold down bracket by grinding one of the nubs otherwise it won't clear the mosfet heatsinks.. Check out this youtube video as this guy will show you how to dremel the nub off so you can fit the Tuniq tower bracket. This video is for the UD3P but the board layout is the same as the UD3R http://www.gamebeat.net/forum/showthread.php?t=99
Dam, I'm gonna have to find myself one of those grinding things, where should I look? Any ordinary tool shop?
You'll need a dremel tool and a cutting wheel, you can get one at Wal-mart, Target, or any hardware store should have them..
Alright, thanks @ Shummyr... No I don't With this setup, what kind of settings should I expect in crysis?
An 800W power supply, for a system that will pull 270W under full load (I had the same setup, I tested ), LMAO. eddie: Depends on the resolution.
