    Do any blu-ray players play a say 720P blu-ray movie? The model that my father has only does 1080P, so we convert everything and it's taking a while. What's the most versatile blu-ray player out there? I would probably say the PS3, but next in line? I have the PS3, and use it 99% of the time for playing movies.

    Thanks.

    The ps3 is the most versatile blu-ray player by far.
    Just stick with your ps3 for blu-rays

    Sony BDP350 would be best for compatibility and cost.

    My father's bluray player is the Insignia that Wal-Mart had on sale on Black Friday for 140. It plays regular DVD's, burned DVD's, -R's +R's and it supports AVCHD format as long as the resolution is 1920 x 1080. As well as playing the blu-rays.

    @helitac

    It's considered very bad form to attempt to hijack someone else's thread.

    And no, a Blu-Ray disc will NOT play in a DVD player.

    (That's why they sell Blu-Ray players)

    Get the Sony BDPS350, or if you can afford it, get the 550 which is the one I have. The quality is slightly better and sharper than the 350, and it is way better in picture and sound quality than PS3.
