-not sure if this is the right place to post this-

Has anyone had any experience using a usb NAS adapter? If so, what are the pros and cons of them, and is it worth getting? I found one over at addonics.com and they look pretty interesting.

USB Network attached storage? That's a bit of a contradiction in terms. Did you mean USB wireless network adapter?

Interesting device. Why would you need one? NAS devices are usually extremely expensive, for the reason that they are networked. Using USB loses that advantage, any cheap old hard disk enclosure has USB on it, including two-ports like the IcyBox ST-3220.

    Pros

    1. makes use of your "boat anchor" USB enclosures.
    2. No more "advanced sneakernet"
    3. If all you need is one drive it's cheaper than buying a NAS enclosure.

    Cons

1.One more interface conversion. Interface conversion = overhead = delay = addl. point of failure.
2.You need one adapter per USB enclosure that you want to have online. Doesn't scale very well.

I don't necessaraly need one. It would just be nice to have my external hdd connected to one of these instead of having to use a pc to share all of my files over my network.

I Didn't really consider that actually, I suppose that is a nice use for one if all you share is one or two drives.
