soon afer i got a virus or trojan and got rid of it, i realized that my keyboard hasnt been functioning normally. i can type and use all the standard buttons, but i cant use the extra ones, like pause/play/volumes/mute/ect. so i thought uninstalling the keyboard driver and then reinstalling it would be fine. so i googled and followed this guide saying

and i uninstalled the keyboard, and when i plugged it back in via usb, i expected that the window would pop up saying 'hardware has been recognized' and stuff, but it didnt. i also tried to install the cd that came with it, but not nothing changed.

Those keys are controlled by special software . The standard keyboard driver typically has nothing to do with those functions.

"i also tried to install the cd "

Did you install the software successfully?? I tried implies that the software didn't install.

I would try de-installing the keyboard software (not driver) before re-installing.

i have successfully uninstalled, installed, reinstalled the software for the keyboard and it still does not function normally. the thing is the first time you use the keyboard, the multimedia buttons function normally, its just that the software is used to CHANGE the button configurations. but now they dont even work at all.

i pulled an extra PCI with 4 usb 2.0 ports, and i added it to my motherboard and now the keyboard works. it added the new hardware and everything.

i think the problem was that i was not able to uninstall the previous hardware or reinstall it so it didnt work right. thanks for all your help!
