I'm running windows xp pro service pack 3 on this desktop. Before, I had 480mb of ram. This motherboard has two slots so I removed the contents of the slot toward the rear of the pc and replaced it with a crucial 1gb memory chip. Now the pc has only 256mb and it thinks the other slot is empty.

    Lots if needed information missing.

    1) Did you get the right memory? HP Pavilion 733N requires DDR PC2700. Anything faster or slower Might not be recognized.

2)Are you sure that it's installed correctly?

Did you try swapping the position of the memory modules to see if the symptom changes?

Providing more details/informtion in your initial post usually facilitates a more comprehensive response.

I did get the right size of 1gb. The right type as well as it now works. The max capacity is 2gb. I ended up removing the two chips that it came with that equaled 480mb and put in the 1gb. It now works much better. I will later get another 1gb to get the maximum use. I originally removed one of the 256mb and replaced it with the 1gb. Thanks for the help.
