Menu creation question

I like to use my own background and audio when I create my DVD menu's, however I'm finding out that if you go that route, you also have to end up having the project "linked" to make the custom menu creation work.

What I mean is, I can import my own background and the music fine, and I also usually delete the little video window that on the front of it along with that Orbit thing.

Problem is when I delete those two things and then go to "check project" Nero says there's a problem because my avi file is not linked, which I found out is the same as having that little resizable preview window on top of the menu.

So I'm just trying to figure out a way to make it work without having to have that little preview window on there
