I plugged in my external HDD tosay and all my files wew replaced and now read ╟│¢;aüj.Äq when I check it with chkdsk it just states "bad links in lost chain at cluster XXXXXXXXX corrected what do I do? It's still scrolling this message...is my data recoverable? Thanks
It could be the enclosure, it could be the drive itself. I would get another enclosure and move the drive into it. If the data is still bad, you've probably lost the drive. No way to know if the data is recoverable until you know what's bad.
OK ive reached the end of the list and it's asking me to convert to files...Y or N. What were to happen if I were to say yes? Much appreciated...!
As long as the drive is spinning, you can recover most of the data. If there is any corruption, it won't affect the entire drive. Areas that aren't corrupted still have recoverable data. If you rule out an enclosure problem, you can use the free "testdisk" to run more indepth repairs. Also testdisk has the capability of recovering data.
I'm thinking the drive is seriously screwed. So far i'm running photorec from testdrive. I mainly want to recover photo's. So far I got a decent amount back! I'm guessing to hope for music and video to be recovered would be way too much to hope for?
