I had a question about DVD burning, i use to use DVD+R i switched to DVD-R and i an finding the burning speed to be triple, could this be the new disks ?
The first ones were Sony and new ones are Imation both are 16X
Ideally, the firmware in your burner contains the manufacturers ID codes of the disks that the burner manufacturer has tested.
The optimum burning speed (referred to as a 'strategy')for a particular disk ID is applied to the disk (after it compares the disk ID to the information in the firmware).
Different burners may have different strategies for identical disks.
Different disks with the same nominal burning speed, may have different strategies on one particular burner.
Firmware updates are sometimes offered to include new disk ID's or correct problems.
Where would i get the updates from the DVD burner MFG ?

You should burn at the speeds which best suit your media and your burner, not some mythical, anecdotal 'rule of thumb'.
