Hi, i want to buy a graphics card to play 1080p and improve play back of 720p mkv HD video files, the two graphics cards i have chosen are:

    ATI Radeon HD 3450 PCI Express 2.0 512MB DDR2 64-Bit and the
Asus ATI Radeon HD 3650 Vcool Silent 512MB GDDR3

Would the more expensive HD 3650 be better or would the 3450 do the job just as well for video play back, my computer plays 720p smoothly but struggles with some 1080p files, thanks for any input.

What processor do you have? The CPU is more important than the GPU for stuff like this.

Hi, i have a AMD Daul Core 5000+ 2.6GHz, my onboard graphics can handle all 720p files but struggles with some 1080p ones, plus i have a HD dvd drive, i can play some HD dvd's smoothly, others vary.

You should be fine with an HD3450 and that CPU. You'll be amazed how weak integrated graphics are by comparison to the cheapest graphics cards out there.

Thanks for the advice, the HD3450 is half the price so it will save me some money, i knew there was a difference between graphics cards for games and video but wasn't certain.

Will be nice to see the difference in play back with the 1080p video files and the load off the CPU should keep the temps down and a quieter computer, thanks again.
