ubuntu 8.10 to virtual box to windows

i installed ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop [pavilian ze1250] and then virtual box and then tried to install windows xp pro.

as windows finished setting up and saving all the files, through virtual box, my screen went black. and not like power inverter black, like pitch black. my first guess is that it switched my display from primary to secondary.

so i hooked my laptop up to an external screen and everything powers on fine. but i cant see anything on my laptop screen.

my guess is that my primary display is swiitched to the externl screen.

how do i change it back? my bios is old and does not have a setting for that.

i looked at hp's website to do a bios flash but learned my bios was already as new as they come.

any ideas for ubuntu ?
