Hello, I bought a 500gb external hard drive off Ebay (click here for listing). When I plugged it in, it shows only 1gb total space. I have tried reformatting it, but have had no success. Any ideas of what is wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Something appears to be horribly horribly wrong with that listing.

1)Does what you received match the picture?
2)Does the part number listed in the auction (STM310004SDAB0G-RK) appear anywhere on the thing that you received?

According to the part number on the auction listing, you should have received a:

Seagate STM310004SDAB0G-RK Maxtor Shared Storage II 1 TB Shared Storage

There a bunch of stuff you need to get sorted out here.

The item appears to be the exact same hard drive in the picture. The part number is not located on the drive. It does say "Seagate Freeagent Desktop" near the UPC code. I have contacted the seller on the matter and I would like to thank you for your help.

edit: found the part number. Its 9NK2AL-500

edit2: I was fooling around with the device properties and got this far:
I dont know what all this means, but it shows the capacity as 475000mb

edit3: I downloaded a partition manager and the drive had only 1gb of the space partitioned, I partitioned the rest and now it is 500gb Problem solved :D

OK, then it seems to be an error in the listing on the part of the seller.

Bottom line is if you are satisfied, it appears that you got what you thought you were paying for. You may want to advise the seller of the error In the listing.
