Hi i have been having a ball softmoding and fixing the old xboxes using the eeprom reader i found here. I have ran into a problem box today though. i picked up 2 xboxes for $10 and was able to get one up and running flawlessly.The other when powered up just sits there. Green lights(yes)solid) hdd spinning up (yes) dvdrom open (not in this xbox but when changed to another xbox works fine) fans running(yes) i have been searching the forums but have not seen this problem so far in my searxh. Im thinking either the video is screwed or there is something wrong with the bios but dont know how to attack this from here. Someone please point me in the right direction
You haven't searched properly. The bios has failed, probably through a mucked up tsop flash attempt. Llamma's site has a possible fix for what we know well as a "coma box" If you are lucky you will have a 1.1 with the "get out of jail free" multi bank bios chip.. if not then you will most likely need to fit a chip to restore some sort of normality. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/ComaConsole.htm
Good stuff.. lucky it's a nice early one. I love it when a plan comes together XD There are a lot of these around very cheap.. usually they get put to one side and gather dust because the symptom is so strange.. I must have fixed 40 or more over the years.
