i use dvd+R light scribe Memorex media and was wondering if there has been any troubles or problems with any one else using them?? the problem i have is when the media is burned and light scribed after the disk does not play--what could this be?? is it becuz there cheap or there to thin of of a media disk?? what kind of light scribe media can be recommended and where in Canadian dollars can i buy them??? please leave a website in reference---just so other know the media plays b4 it is light scibed and not after
Do the discs play after recording and before being labeled? If so, you could do a scan of the disc to determine the error rate and profile of error distribution, label the disc, and then check afterwards to see if the error rate or the error distribution changed. The LightScribe coating is on the upper half of the disc, and the laser light will not penetrate the back of the mirror layer anyway when it is recording the label. However, there may be mechanical changes if your drive laser is heating the coating to too great a degree or if there is a flaw in the coating formulation that will make it contract. In such a case, the error distribution will show a great increase from the middle of the scan to the end after the disc has been labeled. At that point you know LightScribing is contributing to the problem, but you won't know if it is the disc or the drive until you try other discs. You can try Verbatim LightScribe discs, but both they and the Memorex versions are manufactured by CMC Magnetics or, less likely, Moser Bayer, and will use identical LightScribe coatings--but different batches.

If you use Nero, you can use Nero CD-DVD Speed in the Tools collection to get a rough idea how your drive is reading the disc. If you have a Lite-On drive or an OEM model from Lite-on, you can use the free K-Probe utility that you can find on the Interet. If your drive is a Plextor drive, Plextools is a utility that will scan the discs on those drives. There may be others, but I am most familiar with these three as consumer utilities in addition to full technical testing.
