Just installed UBUNTU 7.10, but for some reason I cannot read or mount any CD or DVD in my drive. It is just not recognised by Ubuntu. I thought this was just the case with 8.0 but I reinstalled 7.10 and I still can't read any CDs or DVDs Can anyone please help..
Google for "ubuntu [your DVD drive's make and model]" You'll probably just have to make a little tweak to your boot configuration, but can't be sure unless you say what your hardware is.
The CDDVD drive model is Samsung SH-S202N. I tried googling it but could not find anything relating to Ubuntu.

There is an Ubuntu 8.10 and 8.04, I don't know which you refer to, but 8.10 is the most recent and may have fixed the bug with a more recent kernel. It also looks like the drive itself doesn't help. You may need a new firmware on the drive, or a new 80 wire cable, or some people suggesting a PCI-IDE card. If it is a new box, check cabling and master/slave jumpers. First step should be to look at fstab and see where the drive is.. unless it's there anything else is a waste of time.
